What Is MPPT Solar Tracking? - The most widely known advantage is an increase in useable power going into your batteries from a photovoltaic array. When a photovoltaic module is connected in a system which has a battery, the battery acts as a limiter to the voltage output of the array. A MPPT charge controller “fools” the panels into producing a higher voltage by “eliminating” their view of the battery in the system. This way they operate on their maximum power point voltage. This allows more power to go into the battery, up to 30% in some instances.

Reports from the field indicate that increases of 20 to 30% in total daily solar power harvest are typically observed by using MPPT solar tracking technology vs. systems lacking MPPT technology.

You Always Know How Much Energy Is Available. - The Precision Battery Monitor is a device that monitors your battery status. It constantly measures the battery voltage and battery current. It uses this information to calculate the actual state of charge of your battery. The battery monitor displays the following information -

Advantages of Pure Sine Wave inverters over modified sine wave inverters -

All equipment currently on the market is designed for use with sine waves. Some appliances, particularly microwaves and variable speed motors, will not produce full output if they do not use sine wave power.

Other devices, particularly medical equipment may not function at all unless you use a pure sine wave inverter. A true sine wave produces a much higher equivalent wattage compared to a modified sine wave power inverter. It is somehow believed that the more you will be using this type of inverter, the greater the variety of electrical devices and appliances you will be powering.  

Hi Efficiency Mono Crystalline Portable Folding Solar Panels - The LFP 100 Pro system is paired up with 150 watt portable folding mono crystalline solar panels that are made with 18-19% efficient solar cells. We love and recommend these panels because:

  • They offer excellent power output performance
  • The built in tilting arms in the back of the panel make tilting the solar panel towards direct sunlight very easy. Tilting the solar panel towards direct sunlight will provide maximum power output, and up to 200% more power than laying a solar panel flat on the ground when the sun is not directly overhead. 
  • The panels are easy to fold up and transport. They weigh 30 pounds each. 
  • They have simple easy to use locking output connectors that avoid the possibility of wrong connections. 
  • Although the solar panels are glass they are very rugged. We have shipped them Coast to Coast in the USA and have never had one break to-date.
  • The panels will provide a lifetime of use if handled with care. They are designed for outdoor use. 

 

Mono crystalline photovoltaic electric solar energy panels have been the go-to choice for many years. They are among the oldest, most efficient and most dependable ways to produce electricity from the sun. Each module is made from a single silicon crystal, and is more efficient, though more expensive, than the newer and cheaper polycrystalline and thin-film PV panel technologies.  You can typically recognize them by their color which is typically black or iridescent blue.


Longevity - Mono crystalline solar panels are first generation solar technology and have been around a long time, providing evidence of their durability and longevity. The technology, installation, performance issues are all understood. Several of the early modules installed in the 1970's are still producing electricity today. Single crystal panels have even withstood the rigors of space travel!

Some other solar websites suggest that single crystalline solar panels can last up to 50 years. According to solar engineers I speak with even though this may be possible, there will be a slight drop off in efficiency of around 0.5% on average per year. So although this type of solar panels can last a long time, there will come a time when the lower efficiency makes it economically desirable to replace the panels especially as the efficiency of newer panels continues to increase.

Note: Most performance warranties go for 25 years, but as long as the PV panel is kept clean it will continue to produce electricity.


Efficiency
- As already mentioned, PV panels made from mono crystalline solar cells are able to convert the highest amount of solar energy into electricity of any type of flat solar panel. Consequently, if your goal is to produce the most electricity from a specific area (e.g., a off grid site - emergency shelter in urban environment) this type of panel should certainly be considered.

Consequently, Mono crystalline panels are a great choice for urban settings or where space is limited or situations where you want to keep a low profile.

Greater Heat Resistance
- Like other types of solar panels, mono crystalline solar modules suffer a reduction in output once the temperature from the sunlight reaches around fifty degrees Celsius/a hundred and fifteen degrees Fahrenheit.  Reductions of between twelve and fifteen percent can be expected.  This loss of efficiency is lower than what is typically experienced by owners of PV panels made from polycrystalline cells.

More Electricity
- Besides producing more electricity per sqm of installed panels, for those who are "going green" and are concerned about the environmental impact of solar panels, mono crystalline panels reduce the amount of electricity needed from local power plants, reducing the dependence on fossil fuels. The greater benefit is a reduction in the use of limited fuel sources and greenhouse gases being pumped into the environment.

The panels also have built in tilting arms in the back that allow you to easily tilt the solar panels towards direct sunlight for maximum power harvest. Tilting the solar panels vs not tilting them can create a 200% increase in power output from the solar panels. 

The solar panels are made with 18% efficient mono-crystalline solar cells that have a long lifespan and great performance. These panels are mass produced and because of this the price per panel is as low as we can find for a nice portable solar panel kit. The panel has all the features you would want to get maximum power out of each panel like built in tilting arms to angle the panel towards direct sunlight. The panels fold up easily and have a nice handle which makes them easy to carry when you need to transport from location to location.

Just buy as many of the 150w panels as you desire. The Helios solar input will just limit the incoming solar input to 1100 watts if the solar input is more than 1100 watts at any given time. There is no problem with connecting a solar array that has a combined power rating over 1100 watts.

The only thing you will need to do is lay the panels outside flat on the ground if its during the summer when sun is directly over head most of the day. Or just create some simple way to tilt the solar panels toward the sun like our 150w panels above have built in. By finding a way to secure the solar panels yourself you can easily save a nice chunk of change.
